It is hard to believe that summer is over and the kids are already back in school. We had a busy summer at the Bertha Bartlett Public Library with the summer reading program (SRP). The theme this summer was "Dig Into Reading". There were 200 children signed up for the reading program this summer. There were many special programs at the library including the Blank Park Zoo, Rick Eugene Brammer the magician, cake decorating with Hy-Vee, and Story County Conservation.

The SRP would not be possible without the generous donations made by our sponsors: McDonalds, Taco Bell, Dairy Queen, Casey’s, Ackley State Bank, Nu-Cara Pharmacy, USDA National Animal Health Laboratory, Iowa Cubs, and the Blank Park Zoo. The sponsors for the grand prizes were Dinners by Dawn, the VanWall Corporation, Wells Fargo Bank, the Science Center of Iowa, and the Bertha Bartlett Public Library Foundation. Thank you to all of our 2013 sponsors!

Fall programing is under way already at the library with KOOL (Kids Of Our Library) meeting on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. for kids in grades kindergarten through 4th grade. The KOOL kids will be learning about great white sharks this fall. Preschool storytime meets at 10:30 a.m. every Thursday morning. We will be reading "Down on the Farm" this fall including farm animals, tractors, and crops.

On Wednesday, September 18th there will be an early out program for kids in kindergarten through 4th grade. We will be learning about how puppets are made and making some simple puppets of our own.
