The Class of 1953 celebrated their 60th reunion throughout the Scandinavian Days weekend. On Friday night, June 7, a social was held at Pizza Ranch in Story City. A "come and go" visit also honored classmates who are "Gone but not Forgotten," Mary Jane (Engstrom) Tietjen, Glenda (Cunningham) Townsend, Gretchen (Kokemiller) Alvestad, Russell Clayberg, Charlene (Bergeson) Rinehart, Kathryn (Paulson) Ubben, John Hermanson, Paul Alan Olson, Leslie Hoagland, Raymond Wisecup and Larry Olson.

An excellent "Scandinavian Days" Parade was enjoyed on Saturday. Several enjoyed the Benson’s poetry reading at the Bertha Bartlett Library. Selections from their books focused on "growing up in Story City," which was humorous and entertaining. Saturday evening, a private dinner gathering was held at Aunt Maude’s Restaurant in Ames, Iowa. Attendees and guests were treated to an excellent "Story-telling" presentation by Paul Wierson. Paul’s Story City anecdotes, and humorous Scandinavian stories were outstanding.

On Sunday, the group enjoyed a nice brunch at the Royal Café, with the opportunity again to visit and "catch up" with the past 60 years! Also, some were able to attend the show of "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the restored Story Theatre and Opera House. As a Herald article or social commentary would state 60 years ago, (or 100), "A good time was had by all!"

Planners and hosts for the 60 Year Reunion of the Class of 1953 were Larry Gere, Phil Wierson, and Jerry Holm. The hosts have decided to retire and have left any future reunion planning for classmates who survive and may volunteer!
