The Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) Foundation announces Jerald Fritz, Roland-Story High School, was one of the 110 graduates of the recent 2013 Business Horizons program, held July 21-25 at Central College in Pella. Business Horizons program is a summer experience focused on entrepreneurship and leadership and is one of several leadership programs administered by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation.
Throughout the exhilarating week, these future leaders had the opportunity to live on a college campus, learn from experts and experiment with business ideas. Attendees worked in teams to:
•launch a new product
•make financial decisions (via a business simulation) about their operations
•create a marketing plan and a television infomercial
•prepare and deliver a 10-minute formal presentation to investors, and
•participate in a trade-show.
Students also met with over 100 successful business leaders and worked with their peers to learn the traits and strengths necessary to become successful entrepreneurs. Tours to Pella Corporation, Vermeer Corporation, Heritage Lace and Van Gorp Corporation completed the agenda.
In addition, a media track, sponsored by the Iowa Newspaper Foundation, allowed students interested in this career field to work as a communications team. The media track participants created a news publication, learned social and digital media strategy, photography and reported on the program’s activities.
The 2014 program will be July 20-24 at Central College in Pella. To view the 2013 projects or to learn more on the program, visit www.businesshorizonsiowa.com.
