Mary Greeley Medical Center will host the 2014 George Hegstrom Symposium on Saturday, March 29 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Ames Middle School Auditorium. There is no cost associated with attending.
The goal of the symposium is to increase participant’s knowledge of well living and to develop healthy lifestyles with a focus toward prevention and management of diabetes.
Dr. Robert Bender from the Healthy Aging and Memory Clinic in Des Moines will speak about the 10 Pillars of Healthy Living.
McFarland Clinic Endocrinologist Dr. Rami Almokayyad will speak about pre-diabetes and McFarland Clinic Cardiologist Stuart Christenson will talk about diabetes and heart health.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Brian Wansink, is the Professor of Consumer Behavior at Cornell University, where he directs the Cornell Food and Brand Lab. He has been highlighted by numerous news programs and has authored over 100 articles and books, including the best-selling Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think.
Exhibits will also be open throughout the day and participants will have time to speak with various vendors including: Bartholomew Chiropractic, Cory Family Farm, and Ames Racquet and Fitness.
The symposium is free to attend for everyone and is sponsored in part by gifts to the Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation.
