It’s hard to believe the holiday season is already upon us. As we hustle and bustle here and there it can be overwhelming. The stress that can come at this time of year can make us forget about how special this time of year really is. That is why you should take time to enjoy some of the holiday events happening in Story City. Spending time with family and friends enjoying what our community has to offer can help us remember what is really important in our lives. If you haven’t visited downtown Story City yet, you will want to make sure do. Downtown has been transformed. Store fronts are all decked out for the holidays with decorations and lights and the Christmas tree is back! A big thank you to the Story City Municipal Electric Utility for all their hard work putting the Christmas decorations on the light poles and putting up the tree. It’s a wonderful tradition for Story City.

The Story City Annual Tree Lighting was held on November 29. It was nice to see so many out to kick off the holiday season with caroling, hot chocolate, and the lighting of the tree. After the tree lighting, many moved down the street to the Story City fire department for another warm and tasty tradition, the Story City fire department chili supper. Santa also made a visit to the fire station where kids of all ages had the opportunity to visit with him about their Christmas wishes.

For hassle free shopping don’t forget to visit our local Story City businesses. They offer a unique shopping experience that can’t be matched by other types of stores. Many offer one of kind gifts that can’t be found elsewhere. So, if you are looking for something different this holiday season, don’t miss the shopping in Story City.

As we are getting closer to Christmas, things at the Story City GCC are winding down for the year. Starting in January we begin full speed once again preparing for the upcoming year. But, we just wanted to take a minute to thank the Story City community. You are the backbone of this organization. There are so many of you who spend your precious time with this organization as a Board member, committee member, or volunteer and we want to say how much this means to us. As a community organization, we are made better by all of you, our volunteers. Without all of you there wouldn’t be a GCC, so THANK YOU!

As we move forward into the New Year, we would encourage more of you to consider becoming a part of this organization. There are always a variety of volunteer opportunities to be a part of. We are made better by the talents of our volunteers and would encourage anyone interested in becoming a part of this organization to stop by, or give the GCC office a call.
