The Roland American Legion Women’s Auxiliary met on Monday May 6th, 2013. Ten members were present and one guest, Laura Buerckley, from Women’s Auxiliary Zearing, Iowa. Dinner was served at 7 p.m. by Mary Jo Martens and Stephanie Hadsdall. President Diane Beck began the meeting at 7:11 p.m., prayer was given by Diane Webb.
Correspondence: A ‘Thank You’ card was received from Tom and Marla Chance in appreciation for the Sympathy card, gift and all those who helped cook and serve in honor of their mother, Jessie Mathis.
Phyllis Childers introduced our special guest, Laura Buerckley from Zearing, Iowa. They will be turning in their Women’s Auxiliary Chapter and she is looking to join somewhere new.
Treasurers Report: Marla Chance reported on the checking, welfare and juniors accounts. $250.00 was transferred to Juniors account from the Junior State Refund.
The Gettysburg address competition check is needed by May 16th in the amount of $25.00 to be presented to the winner.
Old Business: Sign up for streets to distribute Poppies, take what you need today.
New Business: There was discussion about the scholarship presentation on May 15th in Story City.
Bert Stille reported on Memorial Day. Monday, May 27th: meet at 9 a.m., the parade is at 10. We need Color Guard, two people to place the Wreath for unknown soldiers. Wear a white shirt with navy or dark pants.
Phyllis Childers reported on the Jessie Mathis funeral. Three cakes and three salads were made. Special thanks to Sherry Tjernagel, Mary Jo Henze, Phyllis Childers, Manita Waugh and Linda Nolte.
June is nomination month, Carol Summers is the contact person.
A bench will be donated to the cemetary as a memorial gift in honor of Jessie Mathis.
