United Way of Story County (UWSC) has joined with #GivingTuesday, a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. Coinciding with Thanksgiving and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will inspire people to give back to the causes they support to help create a better community.
Taking place Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social networks to create a movement around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are synonymous with holiday shopping.
UWSC has started a #GivingTuesday campaign to encourage Story County to give – at whatever level they can – on Dec. 3. In celebration of its 60th anniversary, UWSC hopes to get at least 60 individuals involved in the campaign.
"We’re excited to join the Giving Tuesday effort because it reminds us that the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community," said Sara Wilson, UWSC marketing director. "Donations will be accepted online at www.uwstory.org anytime between now and the event. The money will go toward the 2013 LIVE UNITED campaign efforts to improve the education, income and health of our county. Every gift will make a difference, and no amount is too little."
UWSC is a strategic leader in building countywide partnerships to identify needs and to develop, support and evaluate effective human services, especially in the areas of education, income and health, for our diverse community.
