Twelve drummers drumming…

a drum roll please for the 100 year anniversary of the Antique Carousel and the Story Theatre Grand Opera House; a special drum roll for Karen Hermanson and Bill Sjulin who are working to restore the Carousel building; a community project worthy of a donation.

Eleven pipers piping…

from fireworks to parades to telling stories these volunteers help make Story City a fun and festive place; thanks to those who head-up and work on Scandinavian Days and the Story Telling Festival.

Ten lords-a-leaping…

a special "Thank You" to our city employees and volunteers who leap into action when called upon – from removing snow to repairing a water main break to getting electricity back on to responding to an emergency situation; these individuals are true lords.

Nine ladies dancing…

here’s three cheers for the Roland-Story Ladies Cross Country Team: Traci Marienau, Tara Rylant, Taylor Smith, Bridget Concannon, Anna Halstead, Sarah Lunn, and Cathy Narigon who once again competed in the State cross country meet—way to go ladies.

Eight maids-a-milking…

she may not be milking a cow in the morning, but early riser Shelly Nibe of Mary Greeley Medical Center opens the Rec Center bright and early, and to our new full of energy and ideas Recreation Coordinator Jenny Nelson.

Seven swans-a swimming…

for helpful City Hall "swans" Dena Nichols, Amy Crabbs, and Jennifer Boggs who answer questions, help with a problem, or take your reservation for the Fairview Lodge.

Six geese-a laying…

some nice golden egg ideas for future city projects; to strategic planning committee members Nic Hermanson, Tony Hogan, Jody Larson, Kari Matheason, Lisa McIlrath, Tyler Oberender, and Eileen Wuebker who worked with the Mayor and Council this past year in identifying City goals for the next several years.

Five golden rings…

to Mayor Jensen and Council Members Jeff Crisman, Dwayne Fiihr, Valaree Muhlenburg, Dave Sporleder, and Becky Watson who each get an Olympic gold ring for how much they accomplish in our community.

Four calling birds…

to my lovely bride of nearly 22 years Elizabeth and our two children Christopher and Elizabeth Joy whose support and understanding allows me to do what I do for each of you and this community; and for our beagle Snickers whose early morning walk helps get the day started.

Three French hens…

and the winners once again are Brian Watson, Ryan Peterson, and Trent Whipple who were victorious in the Volunteer Fire Departments "Fight for Air Climb" State competition.

Two turtle doves…

these two doves – Pete & Elaine Tekippe – are do-anything-and-everything community leaders and supporters; and two of the nicest people you will ever meet in Story City.

And a partridge in a pear tree…

Thanks Denny Michel for all your tree knowledge and work over the years; and for special Story City friend Jim Thomas; a Vice-President from Western Michigan University who spent several days in Story City this past summer; went back and wrote some great things about Story City.
