The Roland Parks Spring Training 5K Run/Walk was held on Saturday morning, March 25, starting and finishing north of the Roland-Story Middle School. There were 90 total registrations and 76 finishers. The entire event was run in a drizzle and light rain. Despite the poor weather conditions, 15 people still entered the morning of the race.

The Roland Kiwanis served a free pancake breakfast to all participants, while non-competing friends and family could still donate to get a breakfast. This is the sixth consecutive Spring Training 5K. Proceeds from the event, and the prior ones, have gone to the development of Britson Park, and for support of youth sports activities for the Roland Park Board.

The 5K route takes the participants past every park in Roland. Those include the Pool Park, Britson Park, Bear Creek Park and Erickson Park. A new feature was added this year. Followers of the City of Roland on Facebook could watch a live stream with a view from the rear of the pace vehicle that led runners around the route.

Most of the live stream was a view of Roland-Story senior, Dakota Rusher, who won the race with a time of 18:13, besting the next closest competitor by nearly 3 minutes. The fastest female finisher was Olivia Ingledue, who ran the course in 23:14. Complete results can be found on the City of Roland Facebook page, or the City’s website, www.cityofroland.org.
