There’s a new event in Story City this spring as the Greater Chamber Connection hosts “Skål: Community Picnic in the Park” from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, in South Park.

Admission will be $6 and will include a souvenir cup and a chocolate bar for making s’mores. Admission for kids age 12 and under is free.

There will be an open mic for local entertainment, so anyone who likes to entertain is welcome to come and show off their skills.

A bags tournament will be taking place. Teams of two can sign up for $9 prior to the event or $10 the day of the event. The winning team will receive half the profits.

“Back by popular demand from last year’s Scandinavian Days a lutefisk toss will be available,” said Abby Huff, GCC director. “For $1 you can see how far you can throw a fish. Medals will be awarded!”

Other yard games will be available for kids to play at no charge.

Marshmallows and graham crackers will be available to make s’mores. Pop and water will be for sale. Other drinks are welcome.

“So, grab your lawn chairs and blankets, your neighbors and friends and join us for a fun evening while getting the chance to enjoy the newly renovated South Park,” Huff said.

Boxed picnic boxes can be ordered from the GCC office and will be provide by Tom and Stevie’s Bistro for $10. Kids’ meals are $8.
