On March 31, Jamie Spittler, Roland-Story High School’s business education instructor, took five students to the Iowa State Research Park as part of the Story County CTE (Career and Technical Education) Consortium Business Education Showcase.

R-S students attending were: Tristan Balmer, Elli Jennings, McKenna Magnuson, Megan Sansgaard and Mitchell Shorkey. Roland-Story was joined at the showcase by students from Ames, Colo-Nesco and Gilbert.

Taylor Frame, director of sales for Raygun, spoke with the students about how Raygun started and their marketing philosophy.

Raygun is a printing, design and clothing company headquartered in Des Moines, with a satirical Midwest flair to their products.

After introducing his company, Frame gave the students a project to work on for the a joint venture between Raygun and the Iowa Animal Rescue League (ARL). Students were tasked with coming up with at least one pet product and one human product that were related to each other. They were given two hours to complete this task.

Then, an hour later Frame gave the students their second project, which was to design a Raygun style T-shirt based on recent headlines. The winning team was awarded $50 gift cards to Raygun.
