Skål: Community Picnic in the Park
The GCC is holding a community picnic in South Park on Saturday, April 22, from 5-8 p.m. Admission will be $6 and will include a souvenir cup and a chocolate bar for making s’mores. Admission for kids age 12 and under is free.
There will be an open mic for local entertainment. A bags tournament will be taking place. Teams of two can sign up for $9 prior to the event or $10 the day of the event; the winning team will receive half the profits. A lutefisk toss will be available for $1 a throw; medals will be awarded. Other yard games will be available for kids to play at no charge.
Marshmallows and graham crackers will be available to make s’mores. Pop and water will be for sale. Other drinks are welcome. Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and join your neighbors and friends for a fun evening while getting the chance to enjoy the newly renovated South Park.
Iowa Choral Showcase
Tickets are available to the Iowa Choral Showcase, which will feature the Roland-Story High School Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Tanner Stutzman. The R-S group was one of six groups selected to perform in the prestigious concert on Wednesday, April 26, at 6 p.m. at the Douwstra Auditorium at Central College in Pella. K-1st grade concerts
Roland-Story’s kindergarten and first grade students will hold concerts on Thursday, April 20, at the high school auditorium. The kindergarten will perform at 6:45 p.m., and the first grade will perform at 7:30 p.m.
7-8th grade band concert
Roland-Story seventh- and eighth-graders will perform a band concert on Tuesday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the middle school south gym.
A dance will be held at the Story City Senior Center on Thursday, April 20, from 7-10 p.m. Kenny Frette’s Country Classics Band will be playing.
On Friday, April 21, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, April 26, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
Walt Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will be held over at the historic Story Theater in Story City this Friday, Saturday, Sunday, April 21, 22, 23, with evening showings at 7 p.m., plus special Saturday and Sunday matinees at 4 p.m. Admission is only $4 and it’s rated PG.
