• The Roland-Story Elementary (Kindergarten - 4th grade) will participate in Go The Distance Day on Thursday, May 4th. Go The Distance Day is an excellent event because over 400 students, faculty, staff, and the Elementary School Principal will perform 30 minutes of physical activity! They will start with a brief talk about the importance of being physically active at least 60 minutes a day, the benefits of regular physical active, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle! Then everyone will do four dances and finish the day by walking/jogging around the practice football field!

• One would think that a story like “To Kill a Mockingbird” should be historical fiction by now, but as the sophomores in Mrs. D-Ferrell’s Language Arts II are learning, it is not. The lessons taught by Atticus Finch to his children, Jem and Scout, may be even more relevant today than ever.

• Roland-Story High School Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. Kevin Masemann, will be performing in the Tulip Time Parade at Pella on Friday, May 5. The parade starts at 2:30 p.m. Why not come on out and enjoy the band and the Tulip Festival!

• Spring Character Counts Week at the elementary school was celebrated April 17-21 with fun days to dress like the pillars of good character. The Kickoff assembly was April 18 with the Old Creamery Theater sharing the 6 pillars from our behaviors in daily life. Thank you to the PTO for financially supporting this great assembly for us!

• Mrs. Bauman’s fourth grade students are giving speeches about famous people after reading about them.
