Ena Moats, an elementary education major at Saint Mary’s University in Winona, Minn., has been named the university’s Outstanding Senior Female. She is the daughter of Steven and Julie Moats of Roland.

For the past 49 years, Saint Mary’s has honored a male and a female senior who have demonstrated the ideals of scholarship, character, leadership, service to colleagues and the university community, as well as genuine concern for the needs of others.

Moats has demonstrated these qualities through her many involvements, the university said in a press release. She has been involved as a facilitator of Peace and Justice Club, a leader with Big and Little Pals, a member and vice president of the education honor society Kappa Delta Pi, and a participant in student variety shows. She has worked with peers as a tutor in the writing center and has contributed as a writer and editor to the university newspaper. She has served on committees for sexual assault, and diversity and inclusion on campus. As a freshman she represented Saint Mary’s at an international Lasallian conference in Barcelona, Spain. After graduation, Moats looks forward to serving elementary school students in either Iowa or Minnesota.
