There’s plenty to do during Spring Fling (Mother’s Day) weekend at Reiman Gardens. Events include the National Public Gardens Day, Plant Sale Extravaganza, the Bag-O-Bulbs Sale and Mother’s Day. Celebrate spring and early season color and see the sculpture exhibition “Washed Ashore” at Reiman Gardens.
National Public Gardens Day
Friday, May 12, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
We will kick off the event with half-price admission and free seeds giveaway in honor of National Public Gardens Day. Reiman Gardens is proud to join public gardens across the country to celebrate National Public Gardens Day annually on the Friday before Mother’s Day. The day allows us the opportunity to raise awareness of America’s public gardens and their important role in promoting environmental stewardship and awareness, plant and water conservation, and education in communities nationwide.
Plant Sale Extravaganza
Reiman Gardens’ members only sale on Friday, May 12, 3-7 p.m.
Opens to the public on Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, May 14, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
The Plant Sale Extravaganza will be held in Reiman Gardens’ parking lot, rain or shine. No admission is required.
Plant Sale Extravaganza supports the Department of Ecology, Evolution & Organismal Biology Graduate Student Organization, the Graduate Student Horticulture Society, the ISU Horticulture Club, Reiman Gardens and the Story County Master Gardener Association. All plant purchases directly benefit each group’s programming.
Plants for sale include perennials for sun and shade, herbs and vegetables, Iowa natives, woody plants including trees, shrubs and Buck roses, container annuals and hanging baskets. New plant additions for 2017 include: the hosta of the year, heirloom tomatoes and milkweed.
Typically Mother’s Day weekend is the first frost free weekend in central Iowa for planting, so bring mom and stock up on gems for your home garden.
While shopping, make a stop at the information booth to get your questions answered by a plant expert. Credit card, check and cash will all be accepted as payment.
Saturday, May 13, 9-11 a.m.
Love the massed tulip displays at Reiman Gardens? Want some of that beauty? You can purchase Reiman Gardens’ tulip bulbs to replant in your own yard! Not only will you get lots of bulbs at a great discount, but you’ll also have a part Reiman Gardens’ splendor.
Bags will be prefilled and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This year’s sale will be a part of the Plant Sale Extravaganza. Bulbs will be mixed; specific varieties cannot be segregated. Gardens cannot guarantee a bulb’s success.
Sunday, May 14, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
In honor of Mother’s Day, all moms are admitted free of charge. No preregistration required.
