Story City Trees Forever is holding its 21st annual tree planting on Saturday, May 6, at 9 a.m. The public is invited to help. Meet near the trail bridge, just east of the high school baseball diamond. Please bring a shovel or rake, and gloves if you need them. Refreshments will be served.
City-wide garage sales
Story City’s city-wide garage sales are Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6. See a list of the sales on Page 8.
Story City’s Antique Carousel has its opening weekend coming up. The carousel will be open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. It will be open weekends through the end of May.
Tonight from 5:30-7 p.m. is taco night at American Legion Post 59, 301 Washington St., Story City. Walking tacos are $2, and soft- and hard-shell tacos are $1.50.
Men’s League Golf meeting
The Men’s League Golf meeting will be held Tuesday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the clubhouse. Men’s League play begins May 16.
The Board of Trustees of the Story City Municipal Electric Utility will hold its next regular board meeting on Monday, May 8, at 4 p.m. in the board room at the light plant, 505 Market Ave.
On Friday, May 5, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, May 10, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
“The Zookeeper’s Wife,” the inspiring, true World War II story starring Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain, will be shown this Friday, Saturday, Sunday, May 5, 6, 7, at the historic Story Theater. Showtimes are each evening at 7 p.m., with special Saturday and Sunday matinees at 4 p.m. Admission is only $4 and it’s rated PG-13.
