Roland-Story Elementary students participated in Go the Distance Day on Thursday, May 4. All of the students gathered with their teachers on the playground and danced to four songs. “They’ve been practicing the dances in my PE classes,” said Cathy Braathun, who teaches PE for kindergarten-sixth grade and led the Go the Distance event. Braathun talked with the kids about the importance of being physically active for at least 60 minutes a day, the benefits of exercise and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. More than 400 students, faculty, staff and Principal Kate Hartzler performed the 30 minutes of physical activity. Everyone performed four dances and finished the day by walking or jogging around the practice football field.
