• Mr. Schwartz’s high school geometry students are finishing the year with a unit on probability, including activities such as Probability Bingo, where they will study sample spaces, a Spinner Game, where they will learn about basic and conditional probability rules, and One Son, where students will use statistics and probability to explore the controversial policy in China regarding how many children couples can have.


• Career Day is happening in third and fourth grades with 49 parents signed up to present their jobs. The parents are sharing about what they do, what education or training is required, where they work, what some of their equipment is and what they like about their jobs. • The seventh-grade class went to the Story Theater on Wednesday, May 10, and watched the movie “Sing.” This was their reward for meeting their goal on testing this year. Way to go seventh-graders!


• Shelby Hennager was selected as the People’s Choice Winner for her glass mosaic “Sunflower” at the recent High School Art Show. Alex Retallick and Sam Charlson tied for runner-up with Alex’s “Guitar Reflections” digital triptych and Sam’s multi-media drawing of an eagle, entitled “OG Landlords.” Thank you to everyone who enjoyed the show and put in a vote!


• Mrs. Phelan and Mrs. Hull’s third-grade classes have been writing pen pal letters with Story County RSVP members all year. On May 22, the students and their pen pals will finally meet at a Pen Pal party. The students will share activities they have been doing throughout the year as well as perform songs and poems. This is a great project and a day that the Pen pals and the students look forward to.


• The sophomores in Mrs. D-Ferrell’s Language Arts II classes are exploring the depths of hubris in the Shakespearean tragedy “King Lear.” Following this unit, the final will be a standards-based portfolio that addresses the essential questions posed this semester. Mrs. D-F’s Communications Lab 10 is conducting a research project on levels of tolerance in the high school. After writing surveys and analyzing the collected data, the sophomores will present their findings to the class as their final.
