Readers of all ages are invited to explore all things, learn, grow, connect and create this summer as the Bertha Bartlett Public Library presents “Build a Better World” during the summer reading program.

The 2017 Summer Reading Program is open to all of our patrons, preschool through adult, with programs, prize drawings, storytimes and more. Patrons may preregister now; the reading challenge begins on May 27. Our programs are scheduled between June 6 and July 28.

Our preschool storytime will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. beginning on June 6. The same program will be given on Tuesdays and Fridays, but change from week to week.

School-age children will have programs every week on Tuesdays at 1 p.m., starting on June 6. We have a special school-age program in June: “Absolute Science,” a hands-on science workshop, will be at 12:30 p.m. on June 27. The same program will be at 3:30 p.m. in our branch library in Gilbert. On July 25, “The Hanson Family Show” will be performing amazing juggling acts and unicycle tricks at the Story City Rec Center. This program will begin at 1 p.m. in Story City and 3:30 p.m. at our Gilbert branch.

Area tweens and teens are encouraged to participate to come into the library and read for prizes as well as to take part in special events offered throughout the summer. Teens will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays beginning June 6. Edible Architecture, Robot Sculpture Challenge, and Better World Battle are some of the fun programs planned.

The Tween Team will meet on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., beginning June 7. Ms. Shelly has a fun line-up of programs for our tweens, with projects such as Keva Contraptions, Old Mine Shaft Marble Slide, and Escape Room Encounter. Story City Tweens will also be offered the opportunity to participate in the Story County Tween Read book club this summer. This will be rolled into the Tween summer program.
