‘The Beauty of Bakelite’
The Bertha Bartlett Public Library in Story City will sponsor a presentation, “The Beauty of Bakelite,” with Sylvia Munsen on Thursday, June 8, at 3 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. Learn about Bakelite, which was the first synthetic thermosetting plastic, including its history and a variety of uses from radios and toys to jewelry, silverware and napkin rings. Learn how to identify authentic Bakelite. The program is free and open to the public.
Skunk River Duck Race
The ducks are revved up and ready to race down the Skunk River on Thursday, June 8, at 5 p.m., so come down to the South Park and cheer on the rubber duckies!
‘UFOs of Iowa’
On Thursday, June 8, at 7 p.m., Terry Fisk will be returning to the Roland Public Library to present the program “UFOs of Iowa and the Midwest.” Author, investigator and lecturer for Unexplained Research LLC, Fisk presents programs around the country on paranormal and unexplained phenomena, including UFOs. He will discuss the top UFO sightings of Iowa, the Midwest and the world. He will share photos, case histories, eyewitness accounts and discuss some of the cases he has investigated.
On Friday, June 9, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, June 14, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
The Board of Trustees of the Story City Municipal Electric Utility will hold its next regular board meeting on Tuesday, June 13, at 4 p.m. in the board room at the light plant, 505 Market Ave.
‘The Addams Family’ at Story Theater
Special encore performances of Judge Story’s Theatrical Troupe’s production of “The Adams Family” will be performed Saturday, June 10, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 11, at 130 p.m. at the historic Story Theater.
