Motorists in Story City will be detoured around a major road project beginning Monday as part of the city’s $1.2 million Broad Street reconstruction project begins.
The portion of Broad Street from Grand Avenue to approximately 360 feet east of Hillcrest Avenue — just past the pool parking lot — will be closed until early August.
“The Broad Street Reconstruction Project was awarded to Gehrke Inc. with a bid of $1,167,263.25,” said Mark Jackson, city administrator. “This project includes the reconstruction of Broad Street from Garfield Avenue to the railroad tracks and from Grand Avenue to approximately 360 feet east of Hillcrest Avenue.”
In general, the project involves the removal and replacement of the pavement, including curb and gutter, sidewalks, water main, storm water system and driveways. Other items, such as pavement markings, grass seeding and fertilizing, are also included in the project.
