The Story City City Council came to a consensus Monday to maintain its current ordinance prohibiting the use of fireworks within the city limits.

The discussion was spurred by the recent change in the state law pertaining to the sale and use of fireworks.

The sale of fireworks is allowed under the new state law. Fireworks sales will be allowed between June 1 and July 8 and Dec. 10 and Jan. 3.

The council decided to limit these sales to city areas that have industrial and highway classifications. The city attorney Fred Larson will draft a new ordinance and present it to the council at a future meeting.
