ISU's Dean's List

More than 8,700 Iowa State University students have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the spring semester 2017 Dean's List. Students named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.

ISU orientation

Sixty-nine incoming first-year College of Human Sciences students participated in orientation at Iowa State University in Ames, June 8-9. As part of the program, students and their families met peers, signed up for classes, became familiar with the campus, and learned tips for making the most of their college careers. Local students participating included: Megan Van Brocklin, of Story City, elementary education; and Lynette Wuebker, of Story City, pre-diet and exercise.

Tryon receives Mercy College General Scholarship

The Mercy College Scholarship Selection Committee has announced that Adam Tryon, of Story City, a student at Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, has received a $1,000 Mercy College General Scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year. Funded with gifts from the General Scholarship Fund, these scholarships are awarded to students admitted to the College as full- and part-time students, and meeting the College admission GPA or progression GPA requirement.

ISU's commencement

At Iowa State University's spring commencement ceremonies in May, 4,859 graduates received degrees. Iowa State awarded 4,097 undergraduate degrees, 492 master's degrees, 137 doctor of veterinary medicine degrees and 133 doctor of philosophy degrees. Of the students receiving bachelor's degrees, 1,220 graduated with “With Distinction” (cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude); 125 students graduated both with distinction and as members of the Honors Program.

UNI's Dean's List

The University of Northern Iowa has announced its Dean's List for the Spring 2017 semester. To be included on the list, a student must have earned a grade point of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while taking at least 12 hours of graded work during the semester.

Students from Story City who were included on the Dean's List were: Ross Barclay, Mackenzie Busch, Mykel Carlson, Mariana Henrichs, Daniel Rainbolt and Megan Wellik.

University of Iowa graduate

Schyler Polaski, of Roland, graduated from the University of Iowa during its spring commencement. Polaski earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sport and recreation management.

University of Iowa's Dean's List

Grand View's President's List

Emily Olson of Story City has been named to Grand View University's President's List for the 2017 Spring semester. Students are named to the President's List for earning a grade point average of 4.0 while carrying at least 12 hours of classes.

Grand View's Dean's List

Anna Halstead, of Roland, and Cassandra Shadlow, of Roland, have been named to Grand View University's Dean's List for the 2017 Spring semester. Students are named to the Dean's List for earning a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale while carrying at least 12 hours of classes.

Wartburg's Dean's List

Zachary Hovick, of Roland, has been named to Wartburg College's 2017 Winter/May Term Dean's List. The list honors students who earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or above in at least five course credits during the two terms.

Dean's List at Luther College

Lorelle Behne, Luther College junior of Story City, has been named to the 2017 spring semester Dean's List. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must complete at least 12 credit hours with 10 hours of conventional grades.

Central College graduates

Central College seniors graduated May 13, with 238 students participating in commencement. Central's class of 2017 included students from 15 states, including Florida, California, Oregon, Alabama, Arizona, Washington, Massachusetts, Colorado and Texas, as well as one foreign country, Kosovo. Local Central graduates include Megan Gustafson, of Story City.

Iowa Lakes' Honors List

Tayne Phillips, of Story City, has been named to the spring honors list at Iowa Lakes Community College. The honors list includes full-time students (12 credits or more) who have demonstrated academic excellence by earning a grade point average of 3.25 (based on a 4.00) or higher.

Saint Mary's University

Ena Moats, of Roland, daughter of Steven and Julie Moats, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in May from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in Winona. Moats was also named to the second semester, 2017-18 Dean's List at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. The list includes 216 undergraduate students who earned a grade point average of 3.60 or better on a 4.0 scale.
