The Story City Architectural Scavenger Hunt is an opportunity to have fun in a competition that will also be educational about the history of the community.

Join the Story City GCC Design Committee and Story City Historical Society on Thursday, July 20, at 6 p.m. to take a tour around Story City’s architecture, decipher clues, inspect photos and ask Story City “Knowers of All Things” for mulligans.

Be the first team to arrive at the final stop with all the correct answers to win a cash prize.

“Teams of 2-4 people will follow clues through downtown Story City,” said Abby Huff, executive director of the GCC. “Each team starts with a clue that leads them to a location, where they will find a clue that leads them to the next location.”

With about 10 clues to collect, the first team to get all their clues is the winner. The cash prize is based on the number of teams that sign up for the challenge.

“We are a Main Street community, and every year we have to recertify for that recognition,” Huff said. “One of the things we need to do for that certification is on the subject of preservation and education. The GCC met with the Historical Society, and we asked ourselves, ‘How can we have fun but still educate the community about our history?’”

If teams get stumped, they can pay $5 to get a mulligan and learn the answer.

Teams can sign up for the scavenger hunt until 5 p.m. on Thursday. Sign up at the GCC, “or even just send us an email letting us know you’ll be participating, and we can take payment that night,” Huff said.
