On Tuesday, July 25, the Story City Carousel celebrated National Carousel Day by having a BBQ with turkey hotdogs and tenderloins donated by the Story City EDC and Woodland Farms. There were a variety of games played and, of course, many carousel rides. They also raffled off a thermos engraved by Lasered LLC.

This year the carousel is celebrating two events throughout the summer.

The first is the 2016 completion of a total paint restoration of all the animals and benches. Talented local artists Mike Marti and Deb Holm spent many hours on each figure, removing old finishes, repairing and carefully repainting. The community supported the project by adopting each figure, the benches and tub. The carousel is now looking sharp for its next 100 years.

The second celebration is for the 35 years that the carousel has been in its permanent home in North Park and its original restoration. We are looking forward to what the future holds. Don’t forget the carousel is still open daily through Aug. 15 and weekends through the end of September.
