Jester Puppets at Roland Library
The Roland Public Library welcomes back the Jester Puppets this summer with a brand new show! “Iowa Jones and the Search for the Lost Mummy” will take place on Thursday, July 27, at 1 p.m. in the library programming room. Business After Hours

Join Lloyd Crim at monthly prairie walks at the largest prairie remnant in Story County. The next walk will be Thursday, July 27, at 7 p.m. at Doolittle Prairie near Story City. See rare prairie flora that changes each month and learn the history of central Iowa prairies from a prairie enthusiast. Long pants, sturdy shoes and bug spray are recommended. Bring your camera for beautiful photographs! Doolittle Prairie is located 1.25 miles south of E-18 on 560th Avenue. The address is 14249 560th Ave., Story City. This program is free and no registration is required.
Blank canvases are on sale at the Greater Chamber Connection for $10 each in the second annual 2x2xWho? artistic fundraiser. Purchase a 2-by-2-foot canvas and paint, stencil or decorate them to fit the theme “Iowa Nice: What Inspires You About Iowa?” Return the completed artwork by Aug. 1 to have them added to the public art exhibit downtown. Art will be on display during the month of August and people will be able to vote for their favorites during the Progressive Dinner on Aug. 16.
Sweet corn and bologna feed
The 33rd-annual McCallsburg Lions Sweet Corn and Bologna Feed will be held on Monday, July 31, at the McCallsburg American Legion from 4:30-7 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The meal will include all-you-can-eat sweet corn, bologna, cole slaw, watermelon, desserts and drinks. From 7-8:30 p.m., there will be Bingo games, and a raffle drawing will be held at 8:30 p.m.
On Friday, July 28, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, Aug. 2, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
