A Story City woman was hospitalized and a Des Moines woman was killed early Sunday morning after a head-on collision on a Minnesota highway.


According to the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, Tanya Marie Von Weine, 30, of Story City, was a passenger in a car that was traveling westbound on Minnesota Highway 19 in Rice County, north of Faribault, when a Lincoln Navigator crossed the center line into her lane of traffic just after midnight.


Von Weine was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Volkswagon EOS coupe she was a passenger in, Kacy Elizabeth Merseal, 29, of Des Moines, was killed in the crash.


The driver of the Navigator, Brandon Patrick Dellwo, 29, of Shakopee, Minn., was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.


According to the accident report, police believe Dellwo was under the influence of alcohol, but as of Monday afternoon no charges had been filed against him.
