The Story City Tweens who participated in the summer reading Book Club joined other Story County Tweens on Friday, Aug. 4, in Des Moines for the final wrap-up event for the Story County Tween Read.

Fifty-six youth with 13 chaperones started the day at the “Escape Chambers,” followed by lunch at the Raccoon River park, and an afternoon of packing food for “Meals from the Heartland” in West Des Moines.

The seven Tweens and three chaperones from Story City packed 14 boxes of “Hearty Packs,” which equaled more than 500 meals for those in need.

Those attending the event included: Lucas Wuebker, Luccas Hart, Ben Amenson, Abigail Amenson, Capri Kori, Elizabeth Froehlich, Drayven Spencer, with chaperones and staff of Denise Froehlich, Shelley Hart and Shelly Gruwell.

“Story Thieves,” written by James Riley, is the first book in a series which has a mystery that uses a variety of different books to further the plot.

The summer wrap up event for Tweens was sponsored by the 11 libraries in Story County, and funded through the United Way of Story County.
