Participants from across Iowa competed in the Open Singles and Doubles State Championship divisions of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament held Saturday, Aug. 12, at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.


The Fair hosts both Championship and Open Class competitions every Fair day. Division winners are crowned daily. All Horseshoe Pitching competitions take place on the clay courts just east of Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall.


In the Open Singles division, Deb Wiese, of Roland, placed third in Class A. Russell Wiese, of Roland, placed fourth in Class B. Bob Wiese, of Roland, placed third in Class C.


In the Doubles State Championship, the team of Russell Wiese and Skip Hills, of Altoona, took second place in Class B. The team of Bob Wiese and Brandon DeBord, of Des Moines, took fourth place in Class C.


On Sunday, Aug. 13, participants competed in the Open Singles, State Women’s Championship and State Juniors and Cadets Championships divisions of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.


In the Open Singles division, Russell Wiese placed second in Class C.


In the Women’s State Championship, Deb Wiese placed second in Class A.


On Wednesday, Aug. 16, horseshoe competitors participated in the Open Singles and Senior Championship divisions of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.


In the Open Singles division, Russell Wiese placed first and Bob Wiese placed fourth in Class B.


On Tuesday, Aug. 15, another round of Open Singles and Open Doubles divisions were held.


In the Open Singles division, Deb Wiese placed first and Kenny Wiese, of Story City, placed third in Class A. Russell Wiese and Bob Wiese placed third and fourth, respectively.


Cooper Wiese, of Roland, placed first and Madison Wiese, of Roland, placed second in Class D.


In the Open Doubles division, the team of Russell Wiese and Sheryl Mason, of Grinnell, placed first in Class B.
