The Roland Friends ‘n Service is an organization of women committed to the Roland community through friendship and volunteer service. Their meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month with the exception of the three summer months in which there are no meetings.
During the month of June and sometimes into the first week of July, these ladies work at the concession stand for all Roland-Story girls’ softball games.
A committee of five members organize the setting up of the work schedule, the ordering of food, drinks, and other supplies, the counting of the money, the pricing of the items, and just making sure it all runs well.
The committee this year was Diane Webb (chairman), Tari Canny, Diane Beck, Cheri Myers and Heather Thiel.
The other members (and sometimes their friends, spouses, children, etc.) sign up to work various shifts or to make some of the food at home. This is a huge money maker for the group.
Roland Friends ‘n Service members go on an outing every August in place of having meetings. On Saturday, Aug. 26, members went out for lunch at the Olive Garden in Ankeny.
