Sons of Norway September event
The September Sons of Norway Kong Sverre Lodge’s event will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, at the Community Center, 503 Elm Ave., Story City. The program will be “Norwegian Tunes and Stories” by David Swenson, a retired Boone High School orchestra instructor, who has developed a unique, extensive and growing repertoire of Scandinavian fiddle tunes. He was recently the featured artist at a major gathering of the Sons of Norway in Minneapolis. Social time is 6 p.m. with a catered dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $7 for members and $10 for guests. Sons of Norway events and dinners are open to all interested in learning more about Scandinavian heritage and culture and guests are always welcome. For reservations, phone Shirley Frandson (515-733-4482) or Ingrid Place (515-292-7513) by Thursday, Sept. 7.
The Story City Farmer’s Market will be here on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 4-7 p.m. in South Park along the grass near the parking area. If you didn’t have an opportunity to make it for the last market, come down for this one! The baked goods were amazing, the produce was incredible including some fresh sweet corn, and there was a food truck as well. Come out and check local vendors this week to see what amazing items you can get from people you may even know! The Market is growing, but the GCC is still looking for more vendors to participate and continue to “grow” the market with locally homegrown, homemade items. Please call the GCC office at 515-733-4214 or email info@storycity gcc.com if you would like to reserve a spot.
The Board of Trustees of the Story City Municipal Electric Utility will hold its next regular board meeting on Monday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. in the board room at the light plant, 505 Market Ave.
On Friday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, Sept. 13, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
