The Story City American Legion will hold a kumla feed on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 5 p.m. until it’s sold out. The cost of the dinner will be a free-will donation (suggested $8) and is sponsored by the Sons of American Legion.
Murphy family benefit
The employees of Bethany Life are hosting a spaghetti dinner and bake sale fundraiser to benefit the Murphy family, which is dealing with the stage 4 cancer of the father. The mother, two daughters and one son are Bethany Life employees. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Story City Community Center, 503 Elm St. The spaghetti dinner will be a free-will donation. Carry-outs will be available. One hundred percent of the funds will be donated to the family to help them cover expenses.
The Story City Lions Club is hosting a pancake supper on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Story City Legion. The cost is $6 for pre-sale and $7 at the door. Kids 1o and under eat for $3. Tickets are available at GNB Bank, Reliance State Bank, Great Western Bank, Security State Bank or from any Lions Club member.
Story City Garage Sales and Business Crazy Days Sale
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 14, the Story City Greater Chamber Connection has organized citywide garage sales and business Crazy Days sale. Story City will have numerous city wide sales both residential and commercial with many locations to visit and hunt for some great bargains, special deals and unique finds. EDC Industry Tour
Join the Story City Economic Development Corporation as it holds its annual Industry Tour on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. The group will gather at the Community Center (503 Elm Ave.) at 5 p.m. and the buses will depart at 5:15 p.m. This year the EDC will be touring the Household of Bethany and Story City Municipal Electric. Dance to Ken Frette and the Country Classics on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Story City Community Center, 503 Elm Ave. The dance is open to the public and everyone is invited. Admission is $6; BYOB and a snack. The dance is hosted by the Story City Senior Citizens Inc. Entertainment is sponsored by Reliance State Bank, Key Cooperative, Antiques Iowa Ltd. and Bethany Life.
Roland-Story High School is holding a vocal music concert on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
Onion Creek Cloggers
The Onion Creek Cloggers and Band are hosting a community barn dance Saturday, Oct. 14, in the Collegiate-Wesley Annex, 130 S. Sheldon Ave., in Ames. Potluck is at 6 p.m.; dance is 7-10 p.m. All ages are welcome. You don’t need a partner or experience to enjoy barn dancing. The dances (contras, circles, squares) are taught and called. The band is open; anyone can play with the band off-mic. There is no admission fee, but donations are appreciated to pay for the hall. Electric utility board meeting
The Board of Trustees of the Story City Municipal Electric Utility will hold its next regular board meeting on Monday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m. in the board room at the light plant, 505 Market Ave.
On Friday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, Oct. 18, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
The Christian-themed film “A Question of Faith” will be shown this Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Oct. 13, 14, 15, at the Story Theater in Story City. Showtimes are evenings at 7 p.m., with special matinees Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Admission is only $4 and it’s rated PG.
