Pancake supper


The Story City Lions Club is hosting a pancake supper on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Story City Legion. The cost is $6 for pre-sale and $7 at the door. Kids 1o and under eat for $3.


Fall Dance


Dance to Ken Frette and the Country Classics on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Story City Community Center, 503 Elm Ave. The dance is open to the public and everyone is invited. Admission is $6; BYOB and a snack. The dance is hosted by the Story City Senior Citizens Inc. Entertainment is sponsored by Reliance State Bank, Key Cooperative, Antiques Iowa Ltd. and Bethany Life.


Turkey supper


St. Petri Lutheran Church is holding its 28th annual Turkey Supper on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu will include roast turkey, dressing, corn, potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, cranberry relish, rolls, homemade pie and assorted beverages. The cost is $12 for adults, $5 for kids age 5 to 12, and free for children under 5.


Steak dinner


The Story City American Legion Post 59 is holding a dinner on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The menu will include a ribeye steak, cheesy potatoes, green bean casserole, coleslaw and Texas toast. The event is open to the public and free-will donations will be accepted.


Pumpkin decorating


The Roland Library will have a BYOP pumpkin decorating hour on Monday, Oct. 23, from 4-5 p.m. BYOP stands for Bring Your Own Pumpkin! There will be a wide variety of materials available for children to decorate with. Participants can even enter their pumpkin in the library contest if they wish. This event is open to all ages, though children under 6 should be accompanied by an adult. Please contact the library at 515-388-4086 for more information.


Pumpkin and gourd decorating contest


Bring your very best decorated pumpkin or gourd to the Roland Library and enter it in the Pumpkin and Gourd Contest! Pumpkins may be dropped off beginning Monday, Oct. 23. The deadline to drop your pumpkin off for the contest is Friday, Oct. 27. No carved pumpkins please! Age groups will be 5 and under, 6-10 years, and 11 and up. Winners will be announced at the Monster Mash on Oct. 30. For more information, contact the library at 515-388-4086.


Public tour of football/track complex


On Sunday, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m., the Roland-Story school district is holding a public tour of the current football/track complex and high school auditorium. The tour will begin at the north gate of the football field. A presentation and Q&A session will follow the tour of the facilities. The public is invited to participate in this tour as the district shows the issues that have led to its decision to build a new facility.


Monroe Crossing concert


Tickets are on sale now for the bluegrass group Monroe Crossing, which will perform Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Story City Grand Opera House. Tickets are $15 in advance or $25 at the door. The concert will benefit the Story Theater Historical Foundation. Tickets are available at the Story Theater. For more information, call 515-733-4551.


Play cards


On Friday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.


Fellowship luncheon


On Wednesday, Oct. 25, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.


Story Theater


The animated hit “The Lego Ninjago Movie” will be shown this Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Oct. 20, 21, 22, at the Story Theater in Story City. Showtimes are evenings at 7 p.m., with special matinees Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Admission is only $4 and it’s rated PG.
