The Yulfest Passport is back for 2017, and the program begins Thursday, Nov. 2.
“People can pick up a passport from us at the GCC office or they can get one from any of the 26 businesses that are participating,” said Abby Huff, executive director of the Greater Chamber Connection
Then, when a shopper spends $10 or more in one of the businesses, they can get a stamp on their Yulefest Passport from that business. The promotion runs through Dec. 18.
“Once they get 16 of the 26 stamps, they can bring their passport to our office and we will enter them in a drawing in December,” Huff said.
That drawing will create many winners as several prizes have been donated from local businesses.
Participating in the Yulefest Passport promotion are: PDG Printing, Dinners By Dawn, Story Theater, Sticks & Stones, Story City Floral, TC on Broad, Alley’s Pizza, Romsey Art and Gifts, HPC Salon, Story City Market (formerly Harlan’s), Wheeler Auto, Kaffe Geita, Antiques Iowa, Impressions Salon, Heartland Pet, Affordables, NuCara, Tiffany & Co., Penn Station, Tin Chandelier, Story City Locker, Guys with Grills, Gookin Ford, DQ, Tom & Stevie’s Bistro, and Judge Story Theatrical Troupe.
Story City’s Yulefest Passport begins in conjunction with the several Story City retailers’ holding a holiday Open House Weekend “Clarence Event,” which is a nod to this year’s Yulefest theme, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Participating Clarence Event retailers are: The Tin Chandelier, Romsey Arts & Gifts, Story City Floral, Antiques Iowa, NuCara Pharmacy and Affordables.
Downtown window decorations will also be changing from Halloween’s “Monster Mash” theme to the Yulefest theme. Dinners by Dawn won the downtown window display contest for the Halloween event.
“What better way to celebrate Yulefest and the wonderful holiday season with an ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ theme. We can’t wait to see all the great window inspirations from such a great Christmas movie classic,” Huff said.
The annual Yulefest tree lighting will be held Friday, Nov. 24, at 5:30 p.m. The Story City Fire Department will be having their chili dinner from 5-7 p.m., and following the dinner the Story Theater will be showing “It’s A Wonderful Life” for only a free-will donation.
Saturday, Nov. 25, will be Shop Small Saturday in Story City. The first 200 people to stop into the GCC office can receive an American Express tote bag filled with local business coupons and promotional items and even Story City Cash so they can then shop away the day, Huff said.
