For 103 years Story City has been putting up a large tree right in the middle of our Main Street. Each year after Thanksgiving the community holds a tree lighting ceremony and enjoys this spectacular sight for the holiday season.

Everyone in the Story City area loves seeing the spectacular display, but it wouldn’t be possible without some key people to help put it all together like Mayor Mike Jensen and the Story City GCC Design Committee who assist in looking for the perfect tree, to the family that donates the tree. This year’s tree is being donated by Erma and Gene Schaeffer.

The group that is most responsible and hardly recognized for the work that they do is the Story City Municipal Electric Company. Jeff Ishmael, the Utility Administrator, and his crew work very hard to get Story City ready for the holiday. Each year they take the time to hang the light pole decorations, they cut down the tree, load it onto a boom truck and bring it to Broad Street. After that they need to set the tree back up which is no small task and finally add the lights. After the season is over they take everything back down again which is no warm task in January.

So THANK YOU Story City Municipal Electric Company from all in Story City.
