Thanksgiving Eve Service
The public is invited to join with family and friends today at Bethany Life for a Thanksgiving Eve Service. Two service times and locations are available: 3 p.m. at Chapel at The Households of Bethany, 212 Lafayette Ave., Story City, and4:30 p.m., Timberland Village Community Room, 725 Timberland Dr., Story City.
Yulefest Tree Lighting
The annual Yulefest tree lighting will be held Friday, Nov. 24, at 5:30 p.m. GCC Design Committee chairperson Connie Phillips will flip the switch for the beautiful new downtown lights. Christmas carols will be sung and hot chocolate will be served. The Story City Fire Department will be having their chili dinner from 5-7:30 p.m., and following the dinner the Story Theater will be showing “It’s A Wonderful Life” for free; donations will be accepted.
Shop Small Saturday
Saturday, Nov. 25, starting at 9:30 a.m. will be Shop Small Saturday in Story City. The first 200 people to stop into the GCC office can receive an American Express tote bag filled with local business coupons and promotional items and even Story City Cash so they can then shop away the day, Huff said.
Yulefest Day for Kids
On Saturday, Nov. 25, at 9:30 a.m., Yulefest Day for Kids gets underway at the Bertha Bartlett Public Library (please note location change). The event is for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. The kids will enjoy a movie, craft and breakfast. To reserve a spot, email the GCC at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 515-733-4214.
Christmas Toy Drive
From now until Dec. 15, Eby will be the drop off site for the Salvation’s Army Toy Drive, accepting donations of new, unwrapped gifts for children ages newborn to 18 years. All donations stay in Story County. Please bring your donations between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to 1708 Eby Drive.
Stitch ‘n’ Knit
Stitch ‘n’ Knit meets at Bertha Bartlett Public Library every Friday at 10 a.m. If you knit, crochet or stitch anything by hand, come enjoy an hour of fellowship with other crafters. Remember to bring a project to keep your hands busy!
On Friday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center, people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, Nov. 29, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
The blockbuster hit “Thor: Ragnarok” will be presented Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Nov. 23, 25, 26, at the Story Theater in Story City (not shown on Friday, Nov. 24). Showtimes are evenings at 7 p.m., with special matinees Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m. Admission is only $4 and it’s rated PG-13. Yulefest Tour of Homes
The 32nd annual Story City Yulefest Tour of Homes will be held Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1-4 p.m. Advance tickets are available for $8 at the GCC office, NuCara Pharmacy or any PEO or Quester member. Look for details in the Herald’s Yulefest tab next week.
Holiday Cookie Walk
St. Petri Church is holding a Holiday Cookie Walk on Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cookies, candies, gift jar mixes and crafts will be available.
Old Fashioned Christmas on Main
Roland’s Old Fashioned Christmas on Main Street will be held on Dec. 2 with a soup supper at the Roland Community Center at 5 p.m. From 5-6:30 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. Santa will be at the library. Riverside Christmas Party
Riverside is hosting a Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 6-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to this free event, which will include hot cocoa, wagon rides, cookie decorating, Christmas carols, crafts and more.
Dance to the Country Classics featuring Ken Frette at a holiday dance on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Story City Community Center, 503 Elm Ave. The dance is hosted by the Story City Senior Citizens. It is open to the public and everyone is invited. There is a $6 admission; BYOB and a snack.
