This year we have brought back our Yulefest Passport with 26 LOCAL BUSINESSES participating! The rules: Passports can be picked up at participating businesses or at the GCC office for free; if you spend $10 or more at 16 of those 26 businesses you will get a stamp in your passport. Once you have those 16 stamps you can return your completed passport into the GCC office located at 524 Broad Street. This promotion kicked off November 2nd and will run through December 18th. On December 19th we will draw for some great prizes donated by those 26 participating businesses.
We know that looking at spending $160 dollars to fill your passport seems like a lot but when you break it down the dollars are going towards items you are already buying! It may be picking up groceries from Story City Market, or getting your hair touched up before you see all your relatives, or getting your car winterized, or taking the family out for dinner after Thanksgiving because too much cooking has already been done. Maybe you are catching a movie or seeing Judge Story’s children’s play, or getting that caffeine fix before you head around town to do some Christmas shopping. Maybe you fill that cold coming on and need that cold medicine. Any way you look at it you are shopping local.
The objective of the passport promotion is to keep those dollars that you already spend in Story City because each dollar you spend at independent businesses returns 3 times more money to your local economy than one spent at a chain and almost 50 times more than buying from an online mega-retailer. SO shop local and have some fun while you are at it.
