New Year’s at the Legion
The American Legion in Story City presents Fly by Night Entertainment DJ Travis for a New Year’s Eve party Sunday, Dec. 31, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Donations for veterans
The Story City American Legion Auxiliary Unit #59 is currently collecting the following new items to be donated to veterans at the VA Hospital in Des Moines: Large and X-Large underwear, T-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants. These donations can be placed in the labeled boxes inside the entry area of the Legion building in Story City anytime during the month of December.
Stitch ‘n’ Knit
Stitch ‘n’ Knit meets at Bertha Bartlett Public Library every Friday at 10 a.m. If you knit, crochet or stitch anything by hand, come enjoy an hour of fellowship with other crafters. Remember to bring a project to keep your hands busy!
On Friday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center, people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, Jan. 3, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
The Disney animated hit “Coco” will be presented Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Dec. 28, 29, 30, 31, at the Story Theater in Story City. Showtimes are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m., with special matinees Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. There will be no showing on Sunday night, New Years Eve. It’s time to sharpen your trivia skills and get your team together! The EDC’s Trivia Night will be held Friday, Feb. 9. The theme is “Famous Groups and Duos.” It’s a great opportunity to win cash for your favorite non-profit or charity and have fun doing it. Teams can consist of as many as eight players.
