Sons of Norway February Event
The February Sons of Norway Kong Sverre Lodge’s event will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, at the Community Center, 503 Elm Ave., Story City. The program will be Dr. Donna Niday, supervisor of Iowa State University students who travel to Rosendal, Norway, for their undergraduate teaching experience. Social time is 6 p.m. with a catered dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $7 for members and $12 for guests. Sons of Norway events and dinners are open to all interested in learning more about Scandinavian heritage and culture and guests are always welcome. Music, Art, Speech and Theater fundraiser
Roland-Story High School’s MAST group (Music, Art, Speech and Theater) is holding a pancake dinner fundraiser on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the band and vocal concert, in the high school commons. A free-will donation will be accepted.
Roland-Story February Concert
Roland-Story High School’s band and vocal concert will be Thursday, Feb. 8, at the high school auditorium. The band will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the choirs, and then the State Qualifying Jazz Band will close off the concert. Also a reminder that there will be a pancake dinner before the concert from 5-7 p.m. All proceeds go to the Fine Arts department.
Lion’s Pancake Supper
What’s better for supper than a great stack of pancakes? Come support the Story City Lion’s Club at their Pancake Supper on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Story City American Legion from 5-7 p.m.
Spaghetti, sweets and talent in Roland
Celebrate Valentine’s Day early and enjoy community fellowship at the Roland Public Library’s “Spaghetti and Sweets” Dinner and “Roland’s Got Talent” talent show on Sunday, Feb. 11. The event is open to everyone, with dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. Free will donations will be accepted. Along with the spaghetti dinner, there will be crafts for the kids, a Valentine themed photo booth and a Chocolate Fountain.
Following the dinner at 7 p.m., local acts of all ages have offered to put their talents on display as part of “Roland’s Got Talent.” See musicians, tumblers and dancers, among others, take the stage in this fun community event.

It’s time to sharpen your trivia skills and get your team together! The EDC’s Trivia Night will be held Friday, Feb. 9. The theme is “Famous Groups and Duos.” It’s a great opportunity to win cash for your favorite non-profit or charity and have fun doing it. Teams can consist of as many as eight players. Keigley Watershed meeting
Residents of Story City, Roland, Randall, Gilbert, Ames and the surrounding areas are invited to attend a community meeting concerning the development of a watershed management plan to address water quality and other issues in the Keigley Branch and the South Skunk River. The session will take place Friday, Feb. 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at the Story County Conservation Center at McFarland Park in Ames.
Bethany Life is offering a free seminar on Alzheimer’s Education in a three-part series. The second part in the series is “Know the 10 Ways Warning Signs Early Detection Matters” held at Bethany Life Community Warburton Family Room on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Stitch ‘n’ Knit
Stitch ‘n’ Knit meets at Bertha Bartlett Public Library every Friday at 10 a.m. If you knit, crochet or stitch anything by hand, come enjoy an hour of fellowship with other crafters. Remember to bring a project to keep your hands busy!
On Friday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center, people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, Feb. 14, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. Menus can be picked up at the community center. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.
The Board of Trustees of the Story City Municipal Electric Utility will hold its next regular board meeting on Monday, Feb. 12, at 4 p.m. at the distribution building located at 11820 567th Ave., Story City.
The blockbuster hit “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” will be presented Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Feb. 9, 10, 11, at the Story Theater in Story City. Showtimes are evenings at 7 p.m., with special matinees Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Admission is only $4 and it’s rated PG-13.
