R-S Recognition Banquet


Roland-Story retirees are invited to attend the annual staff recognition banquet on Saturday, April 21, at Prairie Moon Winery. Social hour at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., with a short program to follow. The cost of the meal is $5. To RSVP, please contact the Central Office (515-733-4301) by April 13.


Annual meeting


The Roland Cemetery Association will hold its Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 14, at 9 a.m. at the cemetery building. Election of officers and financial activity reports will be given. All lot owners are encouraged to attend.


Ribbon cutting


Help welcome Theresa and Theresa’s Nails to Story City’s great community of businesses on Thursday, April 12. The official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. in her new office at 519 Penn. Theresa will be having a BBQ, drinks and prize drawing.


Stitch ‘n’ Knit


Stitch ‘n’ Knit meets at Bertha Bartlett Public Library every Friday at 10 a.m. If you knit, crochet or stitch anything by hand, come enjoy an hour of fellowship with other crafters. Remember to bring a project to keep your hands busy!


Play cards


On Friday, April 13, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center, people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.


Fellowship luncheon


On Wednesday, April 18, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. The delicious meals are catered by Story City Market’s deli. A monthly menu and contact information can be picked up at the center. Bring your own table service or buy supplies for 25 cents. The event offers great food, fellowship and Bingo! Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.


Story Theater


The inspiring, Iowa-based film, “The Miracle Season,” starring Oscar winners Helen Hunt and William Hurt, will be presented Friday, Saturday, Sunday, April 13, 14, 15, at the Story Theater in Story City. Showtimes are evenings at 7 p.m., with special matinees Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Admission is only $4 and it’s rated PG. For more information, call 515-733-4551 or 515-733-4319. Volunteer to make poppy sprays


The Story City American Legion Auxiliary Unit #59 needs your help in making poppy sprays to be placed on veterans’ graves in the month of May. We will be making these on Tuesday, April 17, at 6 p.m., upstairs at the Story City Legion. A light supper will be served that night also.


Trees Forever Tree Sale


Story City Trees Forever will be holding its 22nd annual Tree Sale on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. until noon at the former Lone Tree Nursery site. Each tree is priced at $45 and will be sold on a first-come basis with a limit of two per household until 11 a.m. All trees must be planted within the city limits. This project is made possible through a grant from Story City’s natural gas supplier, Black Hills Energy, and is matched by the city. Once again, there will be large variety of trees available for sale.
