Story City will be celebrating Scandinavian Days from Friday, June 1, through Sunday, June 3.


Rockin’ Family Picnic


The Roland Public Library will hold a Rockin’ Family Picnic tonight (Wednesday, May 30) from 5:30 to 7 p.m. There will be a picnic supper, games and activities. Register for the Libraries Rock summer reading program, pick up reading logs, and learn about all of the events and activities that will be available this summer. Mary Poppins


Judge Story’s Theatrical Troupe presents “Mary Poppins” at 7 p.m. on May 31, June 1, June 2 and June 9; and 1:30 p.m. on June 3 and June 10.


Absolute Science comes to Roland


Absolute Science will kick off the Roland Public Library’s summer reading program on Tuesday, June 5, at 1 p.m. This is an amazingly fun and educational program aimed at children of all ages to become engaged in the world of science through demonstrations and experiments. Stitch ‘n’ Knit


Stitch ‘n’ Knit meets at Bertha Bartlett Public Library every Friday at 10 a.m. If you knit, crochet or stitch anything by hand, come enjoy an hour of fellowship with other crafters. Remember to bring a project to keep your hands busy!


Play cards


On Friday, June 1, at 1 p.m., at the Story City Community Center, people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.


Fellowship luncheon


On Wednesday, June 6, a Fellowship Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. The delicious meals are catered by Story City Market’s deli. A monthly menu and contact information can be picked up at the center. Bring your own table service or buy supplies for 25 cents. The event offers great food, fellowship and Bingo! Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at 515-733-9278.


Story Theater


There is no movie this weekend at the Story Theater, but Story City’s own Judge Story’s Theatrical Troupe will perform “Mary Poppins” on the historic stage in conjunction with the annual Scandinavian Days celebration. This week’s performances are Thursday, Friday, Saturday, May 31, June 1, 2, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the Story Theater in Story City. Reserved tickets are $15 and are available at ACT Insurance in Story City. For more information, call 515-733-2266.

Fun Party Bridge


The second-annual Fun Party Bridge Salad Luncheon will be held Saturday, June 12, at noon at the Story City Community Center, 503 Elm Ave. All Bridge players are welcome. There is no charge, but free-will donations will be accepted. All donations will be given to the Story County Dental Office.
