The Story City antique carousel celebrated its 100th birthday last Thursday, July 25, in the North Park with a day-long schedule of activities for everyone to enjoy. Over 650 riders jumped on the carousel that day for a spin on the timeless treasure. The Inflatables were set up in the North Park for all the children to enjoy, and games and chalk drawing were enjoyed as well. Stanley Dahl and his steel drums could be heard from the old band shell in the early evening hours, as many set up lawn chairs in an amphitheater setting to listen to the tropical sounds as they drifted through the park. KCCI’s Eric Hanson also made an appearance in the early afternoon to do a feature on the carousel that was broadcast later that day on the evening news.

All in all it was a beautiful summer day to celebrate one of Story City’s many treasures on its special 100th birthday!
