Mary Bohlke of Story City received a wonderful surprise when she arrived at her job at Heartland Pet Hospital on Tuesday, November 26th. Someone had anonymously delivered a new Schwinn bicycle for her along with a card reading: "Merry Christmas, Mary. This community loves you." Mary, who uses a bike as her main mode of transportation, was thrilled with the new yellow bike, complete with detachable basket for carrying groceries and a large red ribbon.

"My old bike has been fixed so many times, but finally the frame broke," she said. "I was going to have to buy a new one this spring."

She isn’t sure who bought or delivered the new bike, but she wrote a nice Thank You card that will be given to the people responsible, who are known by only a couple of people.

Mary has lived and worked in Story City for several years. She grew up in Dayton, Iowa and helped care for her parents in their later years. She then moved to Story City to be near family in Roland. She loves her job working with animals and enjoys living in a small, safe town where people know her and watch out for her. Mary was excited to share her news with her five siblings who gathered from around the world for Thanksgiving in Roland this year. They were all very touched by the generous gesture. It’s nice to know she lives in such a caring community.
