National FFA Week is being observed this week and Roland-Story FFA students are recognized as well for their past year accomplishments and dedication to various projects and activities. The Story City Herald and the various sponsoring businesses (see this week’s print edition for business list) are proud to recognize these students.

Roland-Story FFA Chapter

2013-2014 School Year

Our chapter has 88

in-school members and

6 out-of-school members

Iowa Degree in 2014:

Logan Greiner, Nicholas Morgan

and Rachel Phelan

Chapter activities center around

learning leadership and

employability skills

and community service work

Typical activities include:

Leadership contests: creed speaking, radio broadcast, salesmanship, public speaking, job interviewing, chapter program, conduct of meetings and chapter quizzes.

Skills contests: Ag Sales, Food Technology, Farm Business, Agricultural Mechanics, Agronomy, Landscape/Nursery, Horse Judging, Livestock Judging, Meats Evaluation and Floriculture.

Community service activities: Elementary food programs, duck races, community beautifi cation projects, operate carousel, water quality testing program, United Way of Story County, farm safety program, Kids Against Hunger program for 2nd graders, educate and advocate for use of renewable energy.

We attend leadership development events each year at the district, state and national conventions.

We work cooperatively each year with other CTE (Career and Technical Education organizations) on fund raising projects, community service projects and social events such as the Sweetheart Ball Dance.
