Dwight “Mac” Nelson McVicker, a resident of Bethany Life in Story City, passed away Oct. 22, 2017, at the age of 94. Interment will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. at the Story City Cemetery, followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Bethany Manor Chapel.

Mac was born to David and Roxanne (Nelson) McVicker on April 3, 1923, in Boone. After graduating from Boone High School, he served in World War II as a Navy Corpsman in the Pacific Theater.

Following the war, Mac returned to Boone where he married Lois Hensen on March 19, 1949. They moved to the McVicker family farm which proudly became a Century Farm in 1998.

Mac was a member of the Story City American Legion, with 73 years of consecutive membership. He enjoyed farming, golfing, and attending the Iowa State Fair.

Mac is survived by his son, David (Linda) McVicker of Story City, his daughter, Barb (Gordon) Huser of Conifer, Colo.; four grandchildren, Dave (Ashley) Halverson of Aurora, Colo., Nick (Colette) Huser of Ankeny, Adam (Lorraine Coke) Halverson of Madrid, Spain, and Maggie (Rhys) Hermanson of Story City; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; and his brother, Leonard.

Memorials may be made to the Story City Legion, Post #59 in his honor.
