Paul Edward Duea, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, on Nov. 3, 2017, at the age of 91. Paul was born in Slater, Iowa, on Feb. 18, 1926, to Rev. Edward Duea and Clara Sahl Duea. After graduating from Story City High School he joined the Navy where he served in the Navy Armed Guard as a Signalman 3rd class, during WWII.
Following the war, Paul attended Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in 1950. In 1949, he married the love of his life, Palma Wick Duea of Story City, Iowa. Paul began his agriculture career as an ag teacher, a county agent, and then entered agriculture business with Cargill throughout the Midwest and retired with Pacific Molasses in Louisiana. While living in Bush, La., he and Palma owned and operated The Grey Barn Antiques and Tea Room.
At the age of 67, he fulfilled his dream, becoming a full-time farmer in Jefferson, Iowa, where he raised corn and soybeans for 10 years. In 2003, they moved to the Gulf Coast bringing them closer to their children and grandchildren.
Paul loved spending time with his family and treasured the trips he took with Palma, his children and grandchildren to Norway and England. Paul loved farming and working his cattle, horses and ponies. He was an avid college football fan.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phoebe Duea Carlson; brother, Orvis Duea.
He is survived by his wife, Palma Wick Duea, of nearly 68 years; daughters, Martha Duea Cook of Huntsville, Texas, Mary Duea Burns and husband Roy of Bush, La.; son, Mark Edward Duea of Gulfport, Miss.; granddaughters, Molly D. Burns of Covington, La., Erin Garrison and husband Grant of Conroe, Texas; grandson, Roy K. Burns III and wife Margaret of Covington, La.; great-grandsons, Bo and Barrett Garrison.
Military honors will be presented Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Biloxi National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Inn By The Sea, 900 Village Lane, Pass Christian, Miss.
