JoAnn Bernette (Durby) Molde was born April 1, 1927, the only child of Barney and Clara (Hoversten) Durby. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Bethany Life in Story City with her husband of 70 years by her side.
JoAnn grew up on the family farm southwest of Roland, graduated from Roland High School and attended Waldorf College for one year before rheumatic fever caused her to return home. She married Kermit Molde on July 27, 1947, and they had three children Roger (Chris), Dean (Marianne) and Judy Stauffer (Brad), and two grandchildren Jennifer and Justin.
Early in their marriage both Kermit and JoAnn worked for the Marshall Canning Company, then JoAnn worked at the Roland Bank several years before taking a position with Central Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, from which she retired. She kept very active in retirement as a member of Wa-Tan-Ye (now Friends N Service) and the Legion Auxiliary, and even worked part-time as the Salem Church secretary. JoAnn also loved to play cards, belonging to a couples’ 500 club for many years, and a ladies canasta club later in life of which she commented “I think we laugh more than we actually play cards!”
JoAnn was known for her adventurous spirit, laughter and resilience.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
