Robert Lee Ness, 62, passed away peacefully Feb. 10, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. His wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 22, 2014, at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall.
Robert was born Nov. 10, 1951, in Bethany, MO to Robert Cox and Patricia Wentworth, and later adopted by Richard Ness. Robert moved to Story City early in his childhood, and resided there the majority of his life. He recently moved to Overland Park, KS to live with his son and family. Robert enlisted in the Marines in 1969 shortly after graduating from Story City High School and was proud to be a Marine like his father. He was a carpenter by trade and relished all aspects of building.
Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren grow. He was a life-time Denver Broncos and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He loved the outdoors, fishing, playing football and basketball, camping, and in later years, acquired a passion for reading.
Robert is survived by his five children: Travis (Chantel) Ness, of Overland Park, KS; Brandie (Alan) Gossel and Jamie (Adam) Lee, both of Story City; and Joseph and Shane Ness, both of Roland; eight grandchildren: Alexys, Haylee and Kyleen Ness, Hayden Gossel, Brody and Ian Lee, Taylor Ness and Billy Ness; four brothers: Terry Ness, of Richmond Heights, MO; Monte Ness, of Phoenix, AZ; Dwaine and Chip Cox, both of Bethany, MO; sister, Kim Fink, of Story City; mother, Patricia Wentworth, of Phoenix AZ; step mother, Norma (Ness) Aspengren, of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his two dads, Robert Cox and Richard Ness.
