Nettie Catherine Wirth 79, of Story City, passed away November 13, 2013 at Bethany Manor in Story City. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Gilbert. The family received friends 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2013 at Bethany Manor in Story City.
Nettie was born November 9, 1934 to Donald and Elizabeth (Zielsdorf) Osgood in Erie, Pennsylvania. Her family moved to Alaska when she was 11 years old and growing up she enjoyed downhill skiing, ice skating and swimming. Nettie married Frederick L. Wirth on February 28, 1957. She worked as a registered nurse and was employed at Bethany Manor. She had lived in the Story City area since 1957, moving into town in 1992. She was a very active member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Nettie liked working on crafts, antiques, reading, garage sales, auctions and time spent with her family.
Nettie is survived by her daughter, Kim (Mike) Hermanson of Story City; three sons, Tim Wirth of Ames, Jeff (Tera) Wirth of Story City and Scott (Chris) Wirth of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Beth Allen of Springfield, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred, on June 4, 2007; two brothers, Neal and Donald Osgood; and her sister, Gerry Thornton.
