Steven J. Ernest, 60, of Ames, Iowa, died at his home on December 5, 2013. A gathering of friends and family will be at noon until 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City, followed by a 1:30 p.m. memorial service at the church. Burial will be at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Steven was born in Kansas City, KS, the son of John and Patty Payer Ernest. He grew up in Kansas City, and moved to Ames at the age of 14. Steven was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from DMACC and attended Iowa State University. He loved to fish, practice yoga and spend time with his family, including his three granddaughters, which brought tremendous joy into his life.

He is survived by his mother, Patty Rua of Story City; daughter, Kelly (Nick) Kopp of Andover, Minnesota; son, John Ernest of Ames; three granddaughters, Ella, Kaitlyn, and Megan Kopp; a brother, John Ernest of Red Cliff, Colorado; a sister, Cay Sills (Brad) of Evansville, Wisconsin; and three nephews, Justin (Megan) Sills and Kyle and Levi Ernest.

He was preceded in death by his father.
